NC Piedmont Orchid Society

Love orchids and want to learn more about these fascinating plants?  Consider joining the Piedmont Chapter of the Orchid Society.  Meetings are held at the McMillan Greenhouse on the first Sunday of most months, and are free and open to the public.  A potluck begins at noon and the meeting and program on compact Cattleyas begins at 1 pm.  For more information, visit their website here.

Member Preview of Fall Plant Sale

If you are a member of the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens, you may purchase plants from our Fall Sale this afternoon, prior to opening to the public on Friday.  New members may join at the door (memberships start at $25/yr). Fall Plant Sale

It’s time to start thinking ahead – Fall is for planting trees, shrubs, perennials, biennials, and cool season annuals to enjoy next Spring and beyond.  We will be offering selections of all of the above, and as always, these will include a great variety of native plants. We will also have a small, but choice selection of carnivorous plants, succulents, orchids, and indoor plants.  You know you can’t pass up a plant sale!  All proceeds benefit the greenhouse and gardens.  Cash and checks accepted.

P.L.A.N.T. Workshop

This is a great 4-hr workshop, developed and run by the folks at Mecklenburg Co. Solid Waste Mgmt.  The acronym stands for “Piedmont Landscape and Nature Training”, and the workshop covers such topics as composting, soil stewardship, and natural landscaping techniques.  For $10, you will receive hands-on training, a wire compost cage, and the resource-packed PLANT book. . Charlotte Area Native Plant Society
