The Susie Harwood Garden

Luna Moth.JPG (18692 bytes)

The Susie Harwood Garden offers a year-round treat to the plant lover. Tall trees provide a partial canopy with areas of open sun.  Paths and beds are more well-defined than in the densely vegetated Glen, and thus provide an interesting contrast to the neighboring garden. The Harwood Garden features an Oriental gazebo, waterfall pond, four-seasons mosaic, and a moon gate. Rocks and stones are arranged in intriguing patterns throughout the garden. The trees, shrubs, vines, annuals, perennials, bulbs, succulents, and water plants come from around the world.

Highlights of the year:

The Winter garden: Extensive collection of winter interest shrubs, trees, and perennials at their prime December through February.  This is the best time of year to appreciate the structure of the garden, and notice the lay of the land.
Spring Glory:  An explosion of wildflowers, azaleas, bulbs, and flowering shrubs, March-May.
Summer Highlights:  Water garden, butterfly/hummingbird terrace, daylilies, moon garden, and annual plantings.
Autumn Pleasures:  Many perennials and tropicals bloom right through October, followed by a kaleidoscope of fall color in foliage and fruit.
