Memorials in the Gardens
The Botanical Gardens are a beautiful location to honor those we love, and we offer several options for remembrance.
Memorial Benches:
Donation amount: $4,500
Who is it for: This program is intended to celebrate anyone, living or deceased.
Description: Donated benches will be sited by Botanical Garden Staff with input from the donating individual(s). Wording on the plaque will be at the discretion of the individual(s) dedicating the bench with memorial committee approval.
Memorial Picnic Tables:
Donation amount: $2,500
Who is it for: This program is intended to celebrate anyone, living or deceased.
Description: Donated picnic tables will be sited by Botanical Garden Staff with input from the donating individual(s). Wording on the plaque will be at the discretion of the individual(s) dedicating the picnic table with memorial committee approval.
Donation amount: $350
Who is it for: This program is intended to commemorate departed loved ones.
Description: Those wishing to honor a departed loved one will have the opportunity to select any non-labeled existing tree in the Van Landingham Glen for dedication. New trees will not be planted.
The selected tree will receive an engraved black metal label, mounted on a treated wooden post. Labels will include the scientific name of the tree, the common name, and the person who the tree memorializes.
A webpage will be created for each memorial and will include information about the tree and personal tributes from loved ones.
To begin, please contact Jeff Gillman at jgillman@uncc.edu At the time of donation, the person(s) funding the memorial will submit an essay (2,000-word maximum) about the person to whom the tree is dedicated. Another topic to consider in the essay is why a particular tree was chosen.This essay must be approved by our memorial committee.
