Guided Tours: Guided tours of the greenhouse and/or outdoor gardens are by appointment only. If you would like to schedule a tour, please fill out a tour request form.
Group size: Minimum of 7, maximum of 26
Fee per participant: $5.00 (45 – 90 minutes).
Note: Group tours for children require one adult chaperone (no charge) for every 12 children. Additional adults may join the tour at the tour rate. Accompanying toddlers under 3 years of age, no charge.
Scheduling: Submit your request (using the link) at least two weeks in advance of the requested date. A guide will contact you by email or phone within three business days of your request. Guided tours are usually scheduled on weekday mornings.
Guided tours generally focus on the greenhouse and the diversity of plants in our collection–orchids, carnivorous plants, desert plants, and unusual tropical plants. Tours can focus on special interests, such as native plants, but advanced planning is required.
Tour topics for school children: Topics include “Plant Habitats and Adaptations” or “Flowers and Pollinators.” Children’s programs can last 45 minutes or 90 minutes.
Self-tours. Groups of 15 or fewer may visit without a guide. If your self-tour group is larger than 15, we recommend programs at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in Belmont or the Mecklenburg park system.
Parking restrictions: There are only six visitor spaces near the greenhouse for cars, vans, or small buses. Visitor decks (five-minute walk to greenhouse) are also an option for cars and small buses/vans. See parking and directions page.
